A deplorable occurrence took place on the plantation of Dr. Wm. Hester, below Northport. Mr. Geo. Neilson, who is in charge of the place, shot a negro employee, named Wm. Dukes, during a difficulty. From accounts which we hear, several blows were struck, when the negro reached for an ax, and was shot by Neilson before he could possess himself of the weapon. Dukes died in about three hours.
