On August 13, 1895, Will McKay, age unknown, was lynched in Brookwood, Tuscaloosa County, Alabama by local sheriff Joe Nelson after being accused of assault with intent to murder against his widowed mother’s partner. Prior to his lynching, Will worked as a miner in the Brookwood Mines and was the son of a widowed mother.
