There was considerable excitement in Tuscaloosa, on the night of Dec 25, over the shooting of Gus Webb, a negro, by policeman (Nicholls, the last shot taking effect in the negroe's arm, causing a painful wound. Immediately after the shooting it was feared that a riot would be precipitated, and the Warrior Guards were ordered to assemble at their armory, but the crowd of excited negroes soon dispersed" without any riotous demonstration.
