Transcript: Filled Him With Slugs. At Brookwood mines Deputy Sheriff Joe Nelson went to serve a warrant for assault with intent to murder on Will McKay, a young miner, Tuesday night. McKay reached for his pistol as he saw the officers approaching, when Nelson fired his shotgun, filling him with slugs. McKay died Tuesday morning.
