Lynching ; Averted Mettie Smith and Will Floyd, two ne- groes, were hurried here from Wetumpka last night in the custody of officers. They were charged with having attempted an assault on the young daughter of a white Baptist minister named Johnston, and they were removed from the jail in Elmore on account of demonstrations indicating a lynching.
