ABUSE OF THE PARDONING POWER. Gov. Oates has pardoned Alonzo Edwards, of Elmore county, who was convicted of white-capping, and sentenced to ten years in the penitentiary. No convict should be pardoned unless for excellent reasons. A man pardoned by Gov. Jones was recently engaged in a murderous assault upon two aged ladies for the purpose of robbery; and this only one instance of the many in which executive clemency has been abused.- Tuskegee News.
