Lynching Averted. Mettie Smith and Will Floyd, two negroes, were hurried here from Wetumpka last night in the custody of officers. They were charged with having attempted an assault on the young daughter of a white Baptist minister named Johnston, and they were removed from the jail in Elmore on account of demonstrations indicating a lynching.
