SHOT BY NEGROES HILL JORDAN OF ELMORE COUNTY THE VICTIM. The Parties Met in the Road and After Some Talk the Negroes Fired on Jordan, Both Charges Striking Him-The Negroes Were Afterwards Killed by a Mob. Wetumpka, Aug. 19.-(Special.)- A desperate duel took place Thursday night in beat one, eighteen miles northeast of this place, between Mr. Hill Jordan and three negroes, Peter Louin and two of his sons. The particulars as learned are that the parties met in the public road and Mr. Jordan accosted Manuel Louin about some money Manuel was owing him. The matter was discussed and finally the negroes told Mr. Jordan they would see him later about the amount and started on their way. After passing Mr. Jordan they turned and shot him in the back. Mr. Jordan wheeled and drew his pistol but before he could use it received another charge in the bowels. After falling in the road he discharged his pistol, striking one of the negroes in the forehead but the ball glanced off without effecting any material damage. Mr. Jordan is seriously if not fatally wounded. Two of the negroes are under arrest. THE SEQUEL. Two of the Negroes Killed by a Mob of Masked Men.
