NEGRO IS HELD AS SUS- PECT IN ELMORE CRIME Montgomery, Jan. 11.-Sidney Crenshaw, a negro, was arrested by the police, Saturday morning at three o'clock and is held in the county jail as being implicat- ed in the murder of R. A. Stil- well of Elmore county. Cren- shaw was arrested near Washing- ton Park by Officers Murrell, King and Barnett. The authorities have obtained evidence it is declared which will prove that the two Smith ne- groes who were lynched early in the week, implicated Crenshaw as being an accessory in the murder. It is claimed that the Smith ne- groes confessed to the crime and then stated that Crenshaw shar- ed in the plot made among the negroes to murder Mr. Stillwell. The negro will be kept in the Montgomery county jail on re- quest of the Elmore county authorities who are afraid that he will be lynched if he is placed in the jail at Wetumpka. Crenshaw denies all knowledge of a plot to kill Mr. Stillwell.
