NEGROES LYNCHED BY WETUMPKA MOB TWO MEN CHARGED WITH R. A. STILLWELL'S MURDER MEET DEATH. WETUMPKA, Ala., Jan. 4.-Two negroes, Ed and Will Smith, charged with the murder of R. A. Stillwell, were taken from the county jail here early Tuesday morning by a mob, caried to the swamps near Elmore and lynched. A militia company was sent from Montgomery by Governor O'Neal, but arrived too late to do any good.
MONTGOMERY, Ala., Jan. 4.- Three while men have been arrested and are in jail, it was learned today, but the names of the prisoners can- not be ascertained. They are suppos- ed to have been memberh of the mob which lynched the negroes at (We tumpka. Two of the men, it was stated, were arrested by the militia and one by deputy sheriffs. Reports of an effort to mob Pounds, the man who killed Joe Peoples, proved base- less.
