Lynchers Sentenced. The Elmore County Court Deals With Them. Montgomery Journal, Saturday. - Yesterday was sentence day at Wetumpka. The prisoners around whom the greatest interest centered were the accused lynchers of the negro Robin White, a case that has attracted national attention. One of these men George Howell was found guilty and given a life sentence. Yesterday Judge N. D. Denson sentenced three of the defendants, Martin Fuller, John Strength and John Thomas to the penitentiary for ten years each. John Thomas has appealed from the circuit court's decision and he is now in the Elmore county jail awaiting the decision of the supreme court. Two of the accused men who have not yet been tried, were granted writs of habeas corpus by Probate Judge Lancaster. Upon the hearing of these writs they were allowed bond in the sum of $1,000. From this decision the state appealed and the men are now in jail awaiting the outcome of the appeal to the supreme court. It will be recalled that Robin White after having a harmless shooting affair with George Howell was arrested, and while on his way to Tallassee was lynched by a small body of men. For this crime sixteen men were indicted. At a special term of the grand jury called on August 20th these indictments were found. Six of the men are under arrest. The others have left the country. The prosecution of these cases was conducted by Solicitor Brewer assisted by Mr. Edwin F. Jones of this city who was appointed special solicitor in the absence of Solicitor Brewer, who was at that time at another court, but who reached Wetumpka in time to conduct the latter part of the prosecutions. The defendants were represented by Messrs. John H. Holmes, Bulger, Lacy and Arthur Williams.
