On June 20 (Friday), 1919 Sheriff R. H. Wood brought in four white men for killing Jim McMillan. They made him stand on a stump and shot him to death. The coroner's jury blamed the crime on J. Blankenship, James D. Oglesby, Elisha Green, and Tom Russell. The same men also beat and mistreated other African Americans in the neighborhood of Woodstock and Greensboro.
