Old Daughter of John Dolan.
New Orleans, July 26.—A Picayune
special from Shreveport, La., says:
News reached Shreveport to-day that
a negress, Jennie Steer, who admin
istered poison in a glass of lemonade
Lizzie Dolan, the 16-year-old daugh
ter of John Dolan, from the effects
of which she died, was lynched by an
infuriated mob about sundown last
night. The lynching occurred on the
Beard plantation, near where the crime
was committed.
Jennie Steer was stubborn to the
last, denying her crime, but the proof
against her was direct and conclusive.
It is said the negress fled from the
Dolan house as soon as her crime was
known. She was found crouching in
a hay loft. The negress indignantly
denied the crime. She was taken to
the Dolan homestead and fully identi
fied.
The mob then took her to a near-by
tree, placed a rope around her neck
and again asked her to confess. She
was stubborn to the last, however,
and was strung up without making
any admissions.
While the body was dangling in mid
air several bullets were fired into it
by enraged citizens.
The victim of poison was a beauti
ful young girl, who was not known
to have an enemy in the world. She
died in horrible agony, which accen
tuated the rage of the mob.
