Biography
On April 1, 1926, Felix Thomas, 18, was lynched in Fleetwood, AL, a mining town near Tuscaloosa by a young white coworker of Alco Coal Co. after taking over the coworker’s position at the mine. His killer, Daniel Hayes, was convicted of first-degree manslaughter and was sentenced to a year and one day in prison. He was the son of Felix Thomas Sr., and a mother, name unknown. He is buried in Peterson, Alabama, west of Tuscaloosa.
