- Ben Knox was shot and instantly killed at Tuscaloosa, Ala., by Tossie King, who had been authorized to arrest Knox for the alleged killing of Deputy Sheriff Dismukes, at Artesa, Miss. It developed later that Knox was not the murderer of the Mississippi deputy.
