- Last Thursday, the Deputy Sheriff of Lanrence County, Ala., who had a warrant for his arrest, came up with Abe : Bates, (who had committed some crime in Laurence, of McFarland's farm, on Biuion's Creek in this county. The Deputy told Abe - his business, and they started off togsther, to , where the Deputy's companion and horse had I been left. Abe said has shoe was "hurtin' his toot." He stooped down and rose with a stick, and pitehed into the Deputy, right and left,- who was doing lais best to ward off the blows. Finally be fired of Abe, hinting him in the arm but Abe kept knocking" and he gave him y a ball in the leg, when Abe broke. Finding that the Deputy was about to over haul him, he came to a "right about," and again using his stick, - which the Deputy failed to wrench l' from him, and fearing he would get away, again used his pistol, shooting him in the bow. els or stomach. He died in two or three hours I after being shot. The Deputy, Mr. Palmer came to town Friday morning, and reported I the facts.
