- We learn from the Colunbus (Miss.) Dirpatch, that Mr. Wm. B. Pope, son of Col. Ben. F. Pope, of Gadaden, was shot and danger ously wounded by a negro named Austin at Alta on the Georgia Pacific railroad, on Saturday, the 29th ult. The negro fled, but was pursued and overtaken about 1 o'clock on the morning of the 30tiv ult. He was immediately strung up to limb of a tree, and his body riddled with bullets. Young Pope was taken by a special train to Columbus, Miss, to receive medical treatment, and is doing well, but not yet out of danger. His father is in Columbus, and we hope to hear of the young man's speedy recovery. Young Pope has been in the employ of Meusrs Leake & Duun Bros., contractors on the Ga. 1 Pacifie R R. and is very bighly spoker of as a very wortby young man. We learn from the Colunbus (Miss.)
