At Henderson a colored brute attempted to outrage a German lady named Tighe, residing in that place, Wednesday evening. Mrs. Tighe, accompanied by a small child and a dog, was crossing a vacant lot in the outskirts of town, when a burly negro rose up out of the weeds and made an assault upon her with the intention of violating her person. The screams of the woman, combined with the cries of the child and barking of the dog, created so much noise that the negro ran away. A number of people, attracted by the cries, soon reached the spot. Mrs. Tighe gave a description of the villain, but he has not yet been arrested. The negro, Andy Burke, who waylaid the thirteen-year-old daughter of a prominent citizen of Tuscaloosa, Ala. last Tuesday, while she was returning from school, and attempted rape, was found late Thursday night two miles from Tuscaloosa in a cabin, with the doors and windows barricaded and provisions enough to last several days. A posse carried him before the little girl. She identified him. He then confessed the crime, and was put in the guard house. Just before day he was taken out by a mob and hung to a tree in front of the Presbyterian church. While in his death throes the mob riddled him with bullets.
