Biography: On May 13, 1869, Tom Roberts, age unknown, was lynched in front of the old State House afterbeing abducted from the Old Tuscaloosa jail by a white mob numbering between fifty and eighty men. He was one of eight black men targeted by lynch mobs in Tuscaloosa after being accused of participating in riots and murder. Roberts was a freedman and registered to vote starting in 1867.
