- JIM SEAMS. Convicted of Murder in the First Degree. The trial of Jim Seams, murderer of Deputy Sheriff Autrey, took place at Eutaw, in Greene county, on Wednesday. The prosecution was conducted by Solicitor Smith, and the defense by Edward De Graffenried, Esq., and Gen. S.A.M. Wood, appointed by the Court. The jury was out probably about two hours when it returned with a verdict of guilty of murder in the first degree, thus saying that the defendant should suffer the death penalty. The jury was a most excellent one and the case was submitted without argument. The charge of Judge Sprott to the jury is said to have been a very able one. We did not learn the date upon which the execution would take place, but suppose that it will be some time during next month and in Greene county.
