- JIM SEAMS CASE REVERSED AND REMANDED. The Supreme Court on Tuesday the 12th inst, decided the case of Jim Seams vs. the State appealed from the circuit court of this county. It will be remembered that Seams killed Deputy Sheriff Autry while attempting to arrest him in the early part of the year, and that he was tried for this crime at the recent term of our circuit court, and convicted of murder in the first degree, and sentenced to be hung on Friday the first day of June. Mr. W. C. Fitts, of the firm of Cochrane & Fitts, of this city, was appointed by the court to defend him in the trial. The case was appealed to the supreme court, and on Tuesday last, this court acted upon it reversing the decision of the lower court and remanding it for a new trial, Judge Somerville delivering the opinion of the court. We have not as yet seen the opinion of the court, and hence cannot at this time give the points upon which the decision is based.
