- KILLING OF A NEGRO, He Was Shot to Death by White Men in Alabama. Special to the Banner. BIRMINGHAM, ALA., July 10.-A special to the Daily News from Tuscaloosa, Ala., says that information has just been received at that place of the killing of Wash Bell, a negro, by a posse of white men, at Triggs' store. Bell had been arrested for wife beating and was sleeping in a room at the store with Officer Cunningham. The night before the trial, about midnight, a posse of white men, who were armed, broke open the door and shot Bell to death and fled before they could be recognized. It is said that Bell had seduced a white girl near the scene of his death.
