- SHOT HIM. A Negro Pays Dear For the Seduction of a White Girl., Special to the Daily News: TUSCALOOSA, ALA., July 10. News has just reached here that on last Mon-day night Wash Bell, a negro man about twenty-four years of age, was shot and killed by unknown parties at Trigg's, store, in Dodson's beat. At the time of the killing Bell was in charge of officers of the law, having been arrested on Monday evening by Officer Cunningham on a charge of wife-beating. The prisoner had been taken to Trigg's store, where his trial was to have taken place next morning. Officers Cunningham and Joe Barnett took him into Trigg's store for the night, and all had gone to bed on pallets spread upon the floor. About 12, o'clock at night the door was forced open and several armed men rushed in and shot the negro to death and disappeared before they could be recognized. The negro Bell, it seems, had seduced a white girl in the community, and it is supposed that for said outrage indignant citizens removed him in short order.
