- W. L. McCain Shot Negro He Was Taking to Jail Wetumpka, Oct. -- (Sprelal.)--This afternoon Mr. W.L. McCain shot and killed a negro by the name of Lewis Fieming, who had been remanded to jail from beat 4. As they were coming to town in a buggy the negro got his hands loose and caught McCain by the throat. Mr. McCain succeeded in getting out his pistol when the negro grabbed it. He was told to submit as Mr. McCain said he did not want to kill him. The negro said, "One of us is got to die," whereupon Mr. McCain fulled the trigger and the negro feil from the buggy into the road dead. Mr. McCain left the body where it had fall- en and came on to town and reported the killing. The sheriff and coroner left at once for the scene of the killing and have not yet returned.
