- Four Negroes Lynched. Four negroes, Sol Jackson, Lewis Spier, Jess Thempson, and Camp Reese, who robbed, brutally murdered and burned the bodies with their dwelling, of Mr and Mrs Carden. near Wetumpka, ten days ago were taken out of jail on the night of the 16th, by a crowd of citizens, tried by a jury of their own, found guilty and all were hung to limbs of a tree, and something like a gallon of lead pumped into their dangling bodies. All of them made a full confession as to the murder of the two old people. It was horrible; and their unlawful taking off. though just, was a horrible violation of law. The Governor has ordered a prosecution of the mob. They intended to burn their victims, but the military were too close at hand. Mob law is dangerous and unjustifiable-except in seduction or rape.
