- TRIPLE LYNCHING PROBABLE MOB SEIZES THREE ACCUSED NEGROES IN ALABAMA, MONTGOMERY, Ala., June 17.—Reports from Wetumpka, Ala., state that a mob broke into the jail there last night and secured, with the intention of hanging them, Sol Jackson, Lewis Speir and another negro, who had been arrested, charged with murder. At the request of the Sheriff, the Governor sent a military company from here to Wetumpka at 8 o'clock last evening, but it is not believed that they arrived in time to prevent a lynching. The negroes were charged with having on Tuesday night last murdered and robbed an old couple named William Carden and wife, and William Corler, who lived seven miles from Wetumpka. Their house was burned to conceal the crime. Jackson and Speir have confessed, and told where they, had hidden $1,200 of the money stolen.
