- MONTGOMERY ADDENDA. THE GOVERNOR PARDONS A WHITECAPPER A Complication as to the Elmore County Circuit Judgeship-The Pensions Board Pass on Applicants. Montgomery, June 13. -(Special.)-Governor Oates today pardoned Alonzo Edwards convicted of murder at the spring term of the circuit court of Elmore county and sentenced to serve ten years in the penitentiary, and restored him to all his rights as a citizen, both civil and political. Edwards is one of the famous Elmore county Whitecappers, but at the trial he turned state's evidence, and to that and other extenuating circumstances owes his pardon at the hands of the governor. The adjourned term of the Elmore county circuit court, at which the trial of the Whitecapping cases was to have been begun, which should have convened on Monday last at Wetumpka, did not convene by reason of the illness of Judge N. D. Denson. Governor Oates did not learn of the inability of Judge Denson to hold the court in time to appoint a special judge, according to the new law, and the clerk adjourned the court until Friday, the 14th instant. Unless Judge Denson recovers sufficiently it will be rather a hard job to find a competent man who will be willing to occupy the bench during the trial of the Whitecapping cases.
