- White-cappers Convicted. Attorney-General Fitts was in Wetumpka last week assisting Solicitor Brewer in prosecuting the white-cappers, Josephus Jowers, John Edwards and John Morgan, who were charged with murdering Rufus Swindal, colored, in Elmore county, in March, 1895. After a long and hard fight by the attorneys on both sides, the ease was submitted to the jury Wednesday night about 7 o'clock. Thursday about 11 o'clock the jury brought in their verdict. They found Josephus Jowers and John Edwards guilty of murder in the second degree, and fixed their punishment at ten years in the penitentiary. John Morgan was acquitted.
