- TWO NEGROES LYNCHED AT WETUMPKA, ALA. Montgomery, Ala. January 4.-Ed and Will Smith. negroes, held as suspects .11 in connection with the killing last Thursday of R. A. Stillwell, an E1- more county farmer. Were lynched early today near Wetumpka, 15 miles from this city. About 1:00 o'clock this morning. according to Elmore county officials at 11:11 "fifteen or twenty men, masked and heavily armed, entered the jail at Wetumpka, overpowered the sheriff. Bound him too a chair and compelled an officer to unlock the cells where the Smith negroes were. After11:15 the negroes and mob left. Nothing as yet is known regarding the movements of the mob after leave of the jail no official report has been made as the finding of the bottles of the two serous State troops, which were hurriedly dispatched to Wetumpka from this city, are reported to be searching for time men who took the negroes from jail. No arrests, have you been reported. The bodies of the group were found hanging from trees in the woods near Elmore station. 11+ miles from Wetumpka. this morning, Three supposed members of the lynching party are in jail at Wetumpka. Their identities are being kept secret by the authorities. Governor O'Neal has ordered a special session of the Elmore county grand jury to investigate the lynchings.
