- LYNCHERS, CONVICTED, Steps Taken a Long Way, Toward the Ending, of Mob Rule., LONG TERM GIVEN, To the Leader of the Mob, and Two Assistants.-, Sensational Case, On Trial., -, WETUMPKA, Ala., Sept. -The jury, in the cases of John Strength and Mar-, tin Fuller, charged with having parti-, cipated in the lynching of Robert, White, a negro, returned a verdict of, guilty in the second degree, and sen-, tenced the defendants to ten years in, the penitentiary., This makes three convictions in these, cases, George Howard having been, sentenced to life imprisonment a few, days ago., The case of John Thomas, a white, man, with whom Robert White and his, brother, Winston, had the difficulty, which resulted in the lynching of Rob-, ert, is now on trial. Strenuous effort, for continuance was made by the de-, fendants, the main contention being, the absence of witnesses, two of whom, are alleged to have left the country, under indictments charging them with, complicity in the lynching., Judge Denson decided that the case, will be heard at once. Every step is, being bitterly contested. and the trial, may consume several days.
