Mutilated Body Of John Houston, Negro, Found On R.R. Track
The mutilated body of John Houston, farm negro man about forty years of age, was found Saturday night on the tracks of the Louisville and Nashville Railroad about one mile north of Deatsville station. Sheriff Lester Holley answered the call about eight p.m. when a member of the south-bound train crew reported from Coosaga that a "bundle" was sighted between the rails after the train ran about 6:42 p.m. Upon investigation Sheriff Holley found that the body had been dragged by the train about 33 cross ties down the track and one of his legs was found here. Bits of blood, clothing and flesh were scattered over the cross ties and rails for some distance toward the South. Houston was a laborer on the plantation of Peyton Gibbons at Pine Flat and is survived by a wife ned and two children. The Sheriffs' office is investigating the case. - Sources for
