ASSAULTED AN AGED WIDOW Brutal Crime of a Nineteen-Year-Old Alabama negro Run Down by Bloodhounds and Captured — He ls Lynched by a Mob of Angry Citizens Birmingham Ala., Sept 4— News reached this city tonight of the arrest of a negro in a remote part of Bibb county by the sheriff and a posse charged with an assault last night. The negro who is only 19 years old was taken before his victim Mrs. Sarah Scott, white, a widow, aged 45 who readily identifed him. He confessed his crime. When the assault was commitedd the woman’s screams attracted passers by- but the brute escaped and waa only eaptured after bloodhounds were brought Into service He is in jail at Centerville and much talking is being done among the angered whites of that county. The Brute Lynched Montgomery Ala Sept 4 —It is reported here tonight that the negro who assaulted Mrs Sarah Scott in Bibb county was lynched by a mob at Centerville today.
