O.V the night of the 3d, Saffold, a negro boy l! years old, attempted to commit rape on Mrs. Sarah Scott, a widowed woman 15 year3 of age. The crime was committed in the eastern part of Cherokee county, and the negro was tracked by hounds and captured . by the sheriff and deputy, carried before Mrs. Scott, who recognized him as the guilty one, ar.d thence securedly hn'ge'd in jail. Tho woman was considerably bruised, but her screams attracted the attention of those who were coming to assist her, when the brute was seared olf and the commission of the diabolical deed prevented.
