- Sheriff Latham of Bibb County, was here yesterday and left in the afternoon for Centerville, having in charge Frank Saffold, a negro who is under indictment in Bibb County for assaulting an aged white woman. Saffold was, at the time of his arrest, hurried away to the Birmingham jail for safe keeping, as threats of lynching were freely made. His trial takes place to-day and preparations have been made to have it as quickly as possible. It is aaid that the witnesses were all secretly summoned, for it is feared that if the presence of Saffold becomes known in Bibb, so intense is the feeling against him that violence may be done him. Sheriff Latham got off the train at Woodstock last night and carried Saffold through the woods to Centerville. The trial will be held as quickly as possible, and if Saffold is convicted, he will be brought back td Birmingham at once by the officers.
