- Monday, June 16, 1919 around 4 pm a white women was tackled by a black man near Woodstock. The people of the neighborhood immediately started to look for the assailant. The officials of Tuscaloosa were tired to be on the lookout for him on the passenger trail that comes in after 5pm. The sheriffs force was busy dealing with an escape from a county chain gang and could not be reached, but the police officers went to meet the train. When Officer Day searched the colored carriage a man jumped up and tried to get out the door. Day shot at him multiple times and from the way he acted assumed he was the assailant.
