C.O. Springer Buried

This Morning at Mt. Pleasant Church

By an oversight in making up the paper on Tuesday the article written about Mr. C. o. Springer being killed at Halsell, Sumter county, was inadvertently left out of the issue. Young Springer, who is a son of Mr. and Mrs. R. N. Springer of this city was employed at a saw mill at that place. One of the hands, a negro from Birmingham, had quit work and as it was part of Mr. Springer's business to look after such matters, he went down to the house where the negro was staying and asked about it. The man told him he had quit work. Mr. Springer then informed him that if he had decided to stop work that the company wanted the house to put some one else in and if he would come and go down to the office with him he would give him his time and pay him off. The negro told him all right, and got up as if to get his hat. Instead of getting his hat he got his gun and commenced to shoot, killing young Springer. The body was brought to Tuscaloosa and carried over to Mt. Pleasant church, near Gordo, where the remains were buried this morning. Mr. Springer is well known in this city, where he has resided for some time and the sympathies of all who know the family go out to the father and mother and other relatives of the young man at this hour.
