- The News always tries to be accurate in publishing the local news. It prides itself on its accuracy. But it seems that the representative of the paper who wrote the story about the killing of a couple of negroe soldiers at Cottondale Sunday morning, was imposed upon. The man wearing the uniform of the government, saying he was a sergéant, told a plausible story and the reporter believed him and wrote the article, feeling that it was the truth. The sheriff, the people of Cottondale and no one else seems to have heard anything about the killing of the negroes and The News owns up that it has been duped for this time. The paper regrets that a piece of fake news was allowed to creep through its columns, and is hereby making the correction.
