- On April 19, 1925, G.W. “Morris” Hardy, 77 years of age, was lynched in his own home on Ninth Street between Fourteenth and Fifteenth street. He was shot by two white police officers after being accused of “cursing and creating a public disturbance” at Feedwell Cafe on Seventh Street in Downtown Tuscaloosa. Before he died, Hardy was a blacksmith by profession, a trade that he passed down to his son Morris Jr. He was also a husband to Sophia “Sophie” Hardy and father to two children, Lurinda and Morris Jr.
