Burt Marshall Killed. In yesterday's issue we alluded to the fact that a negro had been shot near Sanders's Ferry. Since then we have learned the following particulars : Burt and his brother were accused of stealing hogs. A warrant was sworn out for the search of their house and another for their arrest in case the evidence was sufficient. A constable went to their house Monday evening to make the search, but the negroes barricaded themselves in their house and defied them. Not wishing any difficulty the constable went off and got six or eight men and went back Tuesday morning. The boy, Burt Marshall, still refused to let the house be searched or to be arrested. He told the posse that he was no doy and picking up an ax started toward Mr. W. H. Wood. He warned the negro not to advance on him with a drawn ax, that he was an officer of the law, and was simply doing his duty. Burt kept advancing on him whan Mr. Wood fired one chamber of his pistol at him, but missed. Then just as Burt was in the act of letting the ax down on him Wood fired a second time, the ball passing clear through Marshall. He died from the effect of the wound yesterday. Wood went back and gave himself up, but we have not learned the result of the coroner's investigation, but if the facts are as they have been stated it seems to have been a clear case of self defense.
