- The Tuskaloosa Gazette says: Mr. George Nelson, who a tends to Dr. Hester's business on his farm just below North Port, had a difficulty with a negro named Wm. Dukes. It is reported that the negro struck Mr. Nelson when they grappled each other, and after passing several blows the negro made for an ax, and as he stooped to pick it up Mr. Nelson shot him. He lived about three hours.
