- On August 13, 1933, Elmore Clark, 28 years old, survived an attempted lynching in Woodstock, Bibb County, Alabama. He was attacked by two carloads of armed masked white men after being accused of murdering Vaudine Maddox. Later, it was discovered that Clark had survived the shooting by playing dead. Clark was the son of Tim Clark and Jerry Burns.
