Transcript
On Thursday of last week, 20th last, Zack Harris, negro, a notorious thief and desperado, was shot and killed, near Jericho, Perry county, by Jesse Lewis, acting as special constable, while attempting to arrest him for burglary.
Mr. Lewis surrendered himself and had an examination, on Tuesday last, before C.D.Hogue and E. M. Vary, Esqra, The State was represented by C.G. Brown, Solicitor, and the defence by Maj. W.B. Blodawell and Capt. B. M. Huey, on hearing the testimony the prisoner was discharged, on motion of the States' attorney.
The country is thus relieved of the presence of a very dangerous and troublesome negro; and the young man who was forced to kill him in defence of himself and his brother, has the sympathy of the entire community.
