A LARGE STALK OF COTTON.-- Mr. T. R. Ward brought to our office, last Wednesday, a very large stalk of cotton for the 8th of June. It had on it a dozen or more branches and 44 squares, and was taken from the Fabius Hill place. The field is owned by Ben. Hill. The cotton crop is very promising at this time, but no reliable opinion as to the extent of the crop can be yet formed. We have known the prospect very fine as late as July, for a large yield, and the crop then turn out very short, by frequent heavy rains. August and September are the critical months with the cotton crop.
