On Saturday, the 12th inst, he spoke in this town to a crowd of negroes estimated at from five to fifteen hundred. They marched in close column with mounted officers, banners and music, presenting quite a military appearance. Jones and his negro candidates made them spread eagle Radical speeches from the gallery of the court-house. They were not interfered with either by word or deed, and—to do them justice--they said and did nothing offensive. I am informed that the negroes who met in Demopolis on the 3d inst, and nominated Maj. Glover, paraded on that day through all the principal streets of your town, beating a drum and, in lieu of a fife, having a big black fellow blowing cat-calls through his fingors;that they wers marshalled by Skinner and Bob Reid, the respective leaders of the negroes lately in arms in Green and Sumter counties. Maj. Glover has not yet complained that that battalion was either assaulted or threatened.
