The Marion Commonwealth places at the head of its columns, the name of Hon. Porter King, of Perry, as its candidate for Governor. It says: “His record, well known, his talents of the highest order, his escutcheon unstained combine to render him, in every respect, just such a man as the people delight to honor, while his unbending force of character and determined will afford the only guarantees we ask or need for an earnest, practical and thorough administration of the duties of that important office. If West Alabama will come to the rescue, we can easily elect Judge King, and the State at large will afterwards thank us for putting him forward. We are tired of vacillation in high office. We want a man, then, with the firmness and independence of Andrew Jackson, and Judge King is that very man, as all who know him will willingly testify.
