Edward Hyson, was arraigned on the charge of receiving money under false pretenses, having sold a boat to a negro by the name of Henry Bell, and given him a receipt for a sum of money in part payment, and then refused to deliver the boat up. The defendant claimed that he sold the boat for $350 to the negro, and he paid $30 on account; failing to comply with his contract, he took the boat back from the negro and kept the money he had paid on account for the rent of the boat, the negro having used her for about three weeks. The case occupied about an hour's time, and was tedious, not being a matter of much interest. The Mayor finally decided the case by fining Hyson $50, from which decision he appealed. Ben Lane Posey, Esq., appeared for complainant, and G. Y. Overall, Esq., for defendant.
