“The evening before this shooting took place, Wash Hudson in company with Syd Weaver, another notoriously impudent colored man, entered Mr. Nordlinger’s store, and in a very impudent manner demanded drayage for hauling these goods. Some words ensued and Wash Hudson drew a standard belonging to his wagon and Syd Weaver drew a whipstaff that he had in his hands, on Mr. Williamson at the same time making threats what they would do should he attack them. They were both ordered from the store and left. Moore Hudson, a polite and accommodating colored man, went to Wash Hudson and advised him not to go to Mr. Nordlinger’s store again, that if he did so, he and Mr. Williamson would have a difficulty. Mr. Harwood, Wash Hudson’s employer, also instructed Wash not to go back there. Yet, in spite of all this, Wash arms himself with a pistol, goes back to Mr. Nordlinger’s store, insults Mr. Williamson by calling him a damn lie, fires at him in the store and in the difficulty that ensued was mortally wounded. These are the facts of the case as we have been informed by reliable parties. That Mr. Williamson was perfectly justifiable in all that he did no one with this statement before them can for a moment doubt, and we are satisfied a sworn jury will so decide.—Uniontown Press. Mr. Williamson gave a bond of $2,000 for his appearance before the Circuit Court.”
