From the handwritten diary of Basil Manly Sr., recounting the inheritance of these enslaved people, ages 51, 49, 21, 13, and unknown (a child), respectively, as his wife's portion of the estate of her father, Zebulon Rudolph.
Manly was a plantation owner in Tuscaloosa County, Alabama. At the time, he was also president of the University of Alabama. Rudolph was a plantation owner in Lowndes County, Alabama. - Transcript
