Dear Sir
I have already written to you a letter, recommending a [[Commuting--Law and legislation|commuta=tion]] of the punishment of [[Russell, George|George Russell]] convicted at the last term <s>of the last term</s> of the [[Circuit courts|circt. Court]] of [[Blount County (Ala.)|Blount C<sup>o</sup>]] for [[Murder|murder]] & [[Sentences (Criminal procedure)|sentenced]] to be [[Hanging|hung]]. This letter I have sent to [Col.?] [[Pope, B. T.|Pope]], the [[Lawyers|counsel]] for the defendant, to be forwarded to you in the week the case should be affirmed by the [[Alabama. Supreme Court|Supreme Court]]. In that letter, I have fully stated the facts & circumstances of the hom=icide, & my reasons for the reccom=mendation I have made. You will no doubt have no<sup>d</sup> it in this letter [reaches?] you, & to it I beg leave to refer you, in the wish, that the [affirmation?] of the judgt., shall make it necessary for you to do so.
