Montgomery, Granville a Slave, the property of D. H. Benjamin + Co. was tried and convicted of the murder of John a Slave, and Sentenced to be hung on the day of March next
Granville
A. B. Moore commute the sentence of death pronounced against the said Granville a Slave, to that of branding and whipping, and instead of hanging him the Sheriff Montgomery County is required to brand him in the left hand with the letter “M” and inflict one hundred lashes upon the na-ked back of said Slave. This commutation is granted whou the conviction that the owner of said Slave promises and agrees to take him out of the State of Alabama northern thirty days and the Sheriff is directed to keep him in custody until his owner is ready to take him away, [roho?] must pay to the jailor his fees for keeping said slave.
